Main Principles of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)

Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) is a programming paradigm based on the concept of "objects", which contain both data and methods. OOP helps in designing software that is modular, reusable, and easier to maintain. The four main principles of OOP are:

  1. Encapsulation:
Encapsulation is the process of hiding the internal state and functionality of an object and only exposing a controlled interface. It protects the data by making fields private and providing public getter and setter methods. This helps in maintaining control over the data and improves security and maintainability.

  2. Abstraction:
Abstraction means hiding complex implementation details and showing only the essential features of the object. It helps reduce programming complexity by allowing the programmer to focus on interactions rather than the internal logic. In Java, abstraction is achieved through abstract classes and interfaces.

  3. Inheritance:
Inheritance allows one class (child or subclass) to inherit the properties and behaviors (fields and methods) of another class (parent or superclass). It promotes code reuse and establishes a natural hierarchy between classes. Java supports single inheritance using the extends keyword.

  4. Polymorphism:
Polymorphism means "many forms" and allows a single method to behave differently based on the object that is calling it. It enables method overriding (runtime polymorphism) and method overloading (compile-time polymorphism), which increases code flexibility and scalability.

Together, these principles make OOP a powerful paradigm for building scalable and maintainable software systems. Languages like Java, C++, Python, and C# are widely used to implement OOP concepts in real-world applications.
