In SQL, JOINs are used to combine data from two or more tables based on a related column. The three most commonly used types are INNER JOIN, LEFT JOIN, and RIGHT JOIN, and each behaves differently in how it returns data.
INNER JOIN:
An INNER JOIN returns only the rows that have matching values in both tables. If a record in one table doesn’t have a corresponding record in the other, it will be excluded from the results. This is the most common type of join, as it focuses on retrieving data where relationships exist in both tables.
LEFT JOIN (or LEFT OUTER JOIN):
A LEFT JOIN returns all rows from the left table, along with the matching rows from the right table. If no match exists in the right table, the result will still include the row from the left table but with null values for the right table’s columns. This is useful when you want to preserve all data from the left side, regardless of whether there is a match.
RIGHT JOIN (or RIGHT OUTER JOIN):
A RIGHT JOIN is the opposite of a LEFT JOIN. It returns all rows from the right table and the matching rows from the left table. If no match is found in the left table, the result includes the row from the right table with null values for the left table’s columns. This ensures that no data from the right table is lost, even when matches don’t exist.
